London, UK - 17 July 2008 -Content and Code,
Barts and The London NHS Trust and NHS Innovations London are proud
to introduce the eHR application, developed by Barts and The London
NHS Trust and ported on Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 by
Content and Code.
The eHR application is a modification of an eHR system
developed and utilised by Barts and The London NHS Trust. It is an
intranet based HR information system and toolkit providing staff
with online support to fulfil HR responsibilities and ensure
consistent adherence to best practice. The eHR application is a
user friendly application empowering all staff to find relevant
information to common and more complex HR issues with access to a
broad range of information, as well as case studies, checklists and
policies.
Ann MacIntyre, Director of HR, Barts and The London Trust
said: "The eHR application came about from the fact that we were
investing more and more in HR support without improving
performance. We found that managers often approached our HR team to
answer common and straightforward HR concerns, such as how do I
refer someone to occupational health? or what do I do if someone
keeps arriving at work late? The eHR application
empowers managers to find the answers to HR issues themselves and
reduce the burden on our highly skilled HR Staff."
The eHR system originally developed in-house by Barts and
The London NHS Trust was quickly recognised by other NHS
organisations in the UK who were interested in this type of
solution. NHS Innovations London, an organisation which helps to
protect, develop and commercialise pioneering ideas and projects
within hospitals based in London, heard about the Barts and The
London's eHR and thought it to be very innovative in managing
resources and the HR department. The only problem NHS Innovations
London observed, was that it was not portable and thus this system
would have been difficult to deploy and spread across the
NHS.
Alan How, Business Development Director, NHS Innovations
London said: "The Barts and The London NHS Trust eHR system allowed
Management and Staff to use their intranet to easily and quickly
retrieve the right information to HR issues and thus highly skilled
staff were finally being used for what they were paid to do, rather
than spend their time answering basic rudimentary questions on the
telephone. Our only concern was that the system was developed
in-house and from our perspective, we needed a content management
solution that would spread best practice across the NHS. We deemed
it ideal to have the eHR application ported on a SharePoint 2007
platform allowing for easy deployment within other organisations
with low barriers to entry."
Alan How added: "Once SharePoint was chosen, we looked at
Service Providers in the UK. NHS Innovations London chose to work
with Content and Code because of their great relationship with
Microsoft, extensive knowledge of SharePoint and their MOSS
customer showcase, which NHS Innovations London thought to be quite
impressive."
The eHR application brings about a cultural change as
managers are now more confident in serving themselves with HR
information. Ann MacIntyre added: "The interesting twist to the eHR
application is that it is so simple and easy to use and the model
can be used outside of HR and replicated to serve other
departments."
Barts and The London NHS Trust have seen a huge
improvement in managers better dealing with their common HR issues.
They expect the eHR application to account for significant
financial savings - up to 50%.
