Softbox Ltd

A content management system leads to an ongoing strategic partnership

Microsoft Certified Partner, Softbox, Ltd (SBL) is a leading re-seller of Microsoft licences, PC hardware and information assurance products and services primarily to major government agencies such as the Ministry of Defence. Online Computers (OLC) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of SBL focused on serving the educational sector. The two companies work closely together to provide software licenses and consulting services to government, charity, small business and education clients.

Business Challenge

While SBL was selling licenses for Microsoft Content Management Server (MCMS), they hadn't yet implemented MCMS for their own website. Instead, they relied on static Macromedia Dream Weaver and an individual employee to keep their website up-to-date. Invariably, this led to a bottleneck resulting in out-of-date web content and an online brand that was both dated and stagnant. Meanwhile, the OLC website also stagnated, a situation that threatened to put off potential clients. As a Microsoft Certified Partner, potential clients rightfully expected more from both SBL and OLC. A whole scale re-design and the implementation of a content management system were desperately needed.

Our Solution

SBL an OLC chose Content and Code to design and deploy their new websites using Microsoft Content Management Server. Each required a substantial information architecture overhaul, content review, new interface design and robust content management systems complete with workflow (online sign-off and approval), archiving, and easy-auditing to ensure content is kept as up-to-date as possible. What's more, our solutions were completely scalable, flexible and accessible and fit well with overall existing brand development guidelines.

With MCMS in place, both SBL and OLC could break out of their conventional work style and allow distributed publishing across their organisations. This distributed publishing model took the pressure off communications staff and unlocked useful 'news' and effective marketing content from unexpected quarters. Today each website features up-to-date news and articles about new clients, the latest product information and company announcements. The redesigned SBL and OLC websites more accurately reflect the companies that they represent - dynamic, customer-oriented, and up-to-the minute in terms of technology and design. Content and Code also configured internal servers and provided consulting and training so that both website could be hosted in house.
