Business Challenge

With over 6500 staff, Torfaen County Borough Council had found their existing intranet was becoming difficult to manage. They required a solution which would provide easy access to a document management system able to cope with increasingly complex projects. Torfaen decided to implement both SharePoint Portal Server and Project Server as a pilot study to solve their issues and Content and Code were brought in to advise them on how to gain the best return on their IT investment.

Our Solution

Content and Code identified and resolved architectural issues that are common to many in-house SharePoint implementations. 1 Project, Content and Code's custom SharePoint template for project management was utilised to provide best of breed features from SharePoint and Project Server. Project teams can now successfully use the portal for web-based access to task allocations, task reviews, time sheets, and Gantt charts. Content and Code also developed a customised risk register to help managers minimise any risks involved with projects.

Content and Code tailored SharePoint to conform to Torfaen's corporate colours and the page design now reflects the branding of their existing website. Content and Code installed 1pack, a SharePoint enhancement that includes advanced search, dropdown navigation, breadcrumbs and a recycle bin to make SharePoint's features more familiar and easier to use.

Onsite training courses provided users with a complete understanding of how to best use SharePoint to enhance information sharing and empower collaboration. Head of ICT Operations Farooq Dastgir said, "Content and Code are helping us move towards a modernisation agenda and utilise our office tools to their full potential. This results in better quality of service for our customers."
