The Royal Yachting Association (RYA) is the UK's governing body for sailing and windsurfing, powerboat racing and motor cruising. The RYA has 2,240 Recognised Training Schools worldwide, that deliver training and courses to RYA standards, and 1,580 affiliated clubs. With 95,000 members worldwide, the RYA administers both the competitive and recreational sides of boating.

Business Challenge

The RYA required a solution to be implemented swiftly, that would enable the efficient distribution of information among all members of staff internally as well as to external members, such as Committee members, Board Members, and Team GBR members. It was also required that the solution provide a complete Document Management System with versioning, and that it facilitate and encourage internal collaboration.

Our Solution

Content and Code determined that a combination of SharePoint Portal Server 2003 and a SQL Server 2000 Cluster would lay the foundations for a fitting solution. A SharePoint Portal Server 2003 based intranet was implemented with customised and enhanced search options as well as dropdown navigation and site browser components to distribute company information to employees and to external members. The portal also simplified the knowledge sharing process by linking all other sites and information in a single place and providing personalisation for users and groups enabling the right information to be available to the right people.

Most importantly the entire solution was implemented within a short timescale and met all the requirements of the RYA - and more.
