Diamond Light Source (DLS) is the UK’s national synchrotron facility. They provide scientific research facilities for academia and industry around the world.
Before approaching Content and Code, DLS had been carrying out their monthly management reporting using manual methods. This required gathering and collating information stored across a range of systems and software packages, which was a time-consuming process with a high margin of error.
To solve the problem, DLS wanted a single, central resource where all projects could be managed and information accessed by team members across the country.
What was our solution?
DLS had already been using Microsoft SharePoint and Office in other parts of the organisation. It was therefore clear that a Microsoft Enterprise Project Management solution would be a perfect fit.
EPM would help DLS manage projects of all sizes and align them with their business objectives. It would also give the organisation visibility, insight and control across all work while improving communication between staff members.

What were the results?
Since we implemented the solution, Diamond Light Source have noticed a real, positive change in the way they manage and deliver projects.
As Maura Launchbury, Programme Manager, explains, “Project team members are now able to raise risks independently as they occur and can buy into project ownership more effectively. Plus, as the data is live and constantly updated, reports for senior management are generated with the click of a button.”
DLS staff can now make informed decisions based on up-to-date and accurate information. The result is smarter use of resources and better-quality projects. Staff are also realising significant time savings. Now they can use the four days a month it used to take to prepare reports manually to deliver value in other areas.
