Reed Elsevier Case Study

Reed Elsevier

What was the challenge?

Reed Elsevier is a world-leading provider of professional information solutions in the science, medical, legal, risk and business sectors. However, their image was that of ‘the world’s biggest publisher that nobody knows,’ and they recognised that the limited functionality and information architecture of their website was hindering their key messaging.

Reed Elsevier were keen to take a technological leap forward and engaged Content and Code to create a new website to raise awareness of who they are, what they do and how they can add value for their customers with their innovative product range.

What was our solution?

Reed Elsevier wanted their new site to be built in SharePoint because of its flexibility and robustness. We developed a branded website complete with Flash product carousels and customisable web parts and other features that afford visitors a clearer and more immediate view of the business. These included:

  • Rich-media areas for video and animation
  • Simple tab-based browsing that allows users to access extensive company information directly from the homepage
  • Share price feed on every page, updated every 20 minutes
  • ‘Investor Centre’ with financial reports, press releases, annual reports and presentations
  • News area searchable by subject and date

What were the results?

Reed Elsevier are very happy with the improved clarity and navigability their new website, which they feel is much more engaging and impactful than the previous version.

They like how the interactive carousels show-off their company and products – and the way the new information architecture makes it easier to find company information. As a result, users spend longer browsing the site than they did before.

The technical team was very impressed with the standard of code. There are already plans to introduce Web 2.0 features – including blogs, forums and extra rich-media elements – which will trigger an ongoing conversation with their audience.

What did Reed Elsevier have to say?

“Through our engagement with Content and Code, we have achieved what we wanted to achieve. We have great faith in the technical capability of Content and Code. Their expertise has made it much easier for our team to expand on the code they delivered for us.”

Piers Thornewill, Corporate Website Manager, Reed Elsevier
